For some larger cor­po­rates, hav­ing a ven­ture cap­i­tal arm their answer to invest­ing in entre­pre­neur­ial start-ups. Some use it to aug­ment their own R&D or gauge the pace of tech­nol­ogy whereas for some it is attempt to ben­e­fit from inno­va­tions in the mar­ket place to sus­tain prof­itable growth. CVCs also facil­i­tate invest­ment of in-kind resources into port­fo­lio com­pa­nies and in return, the par­ent cor­po­ra­tion gains a win­dow on new tech­nolo­gies and strate­gi­cally com­ple­men­tary com­pa­nies that could become strate­gic part­ners This panel will bring together sev­eral top firms to dis­cuss their focus, how they dif­fer from tra­di­tional ven­ture firms and their opin­ions on how best to engage with cor­po­rate ven­ture capital.

Entre­pre­neur­ship and inno­va­tion have emerged as a cen­tral themes in the Michi­gan foun­da­tion com­mu­nity. Many are sup­port­ing the entre­pre­neur­ial and mid-stage busi­ness com­mu­nity by fos­ter­ing pro­grams on inven­tion, inno­va­tion and com­pany devel­op­ment. Join us as the from the Lowe, Fisher and Mott Foun­da­tions along with the New Econ­omy Ini­tia­tive dis­cuss some of their cut­ting edge pro­grams. Atten­dees will learn how through these pro­grams, the foun­da­tions are try­ing to enhance the entrepreneur/business sup­port envi­ron­ment and the qual­ity of life for Michigan’s citizens.
