Ann Arbor SPARK: AMIC is an Investment in Michigan’s Future

While students have returned to campus and the leaves are already starting to show a hint of gold and crimson, the summer of 2018 will always be remembered for its blockbuster entrepreneurial- and innovation-inspired headlines. From Ford’s purchase of the iconic Michigan Central Station to the announcement of Duo Security’s $2.35 billion acquisition by Cisco, Michigan continues to gain recognition as a hotbed of innovation. Over the summer, the state was even recognized as the Midwest’s most improved startup community.

Of course, Michigan’s status as the Silicon Valley of the Midwest didn’t happen overnight. It came through years of strategic and intentional investment in the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem from allies such as Ann Arbor SPARK whose efforts help spur growth regionally and statewide.

One example of SPARK’s commitment to Michigan’s resurgence is through its support of the Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition. For nine consecutive years, SPARK has proudly contributed $250,000 to the event, claiming the Investment Sponsor title and funneling a total of $2.25 million of pre-seed capital back into the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem through this one event.

Accelerate Michigan provides a distinguished platform for entrepreneurs to refine their pitches while the spirit of competition fuels their efforts. It’s an intensive experience that connects Michigan’s visionaries with venture capitalists, angel investors, and fellow entrepreneurs.

As we look forward to the joys of autumn, Ann Arbor SPARK is excited to fund another round of Accelerate Michigan winners and future headline makers.
